Trémaïe and Gaïe Funeral Memorials

The “Tremaïe” and “Gaïe” funeral memorials stand at the foot of the keep. A narrow path leads to the carved effigy of the “Gaïe”, two people dressed in togas with an inscription that is partially legible.

A larger monument stands 250m further north, above a small chapel built in the second half of the 19th century. The memorial is composed of a niche flanked with pilasters and containing three figures. Tradition has it that this bas-relief represents the two St. Mary’s of the Sea (St. Mary Jacob and St. Mary Salome) and their servant, Sara.
