Discover the unique and remarkable character of the place and reveal its minerals. The quarries were dug out over the years to extract the limestone.
Masterpieces are projected onto the huge walls, pillars and floors of the quarry. They transport you to colourful worlds with music. Over a hundred video projectors project images onto more than 7,000 m² of floor space.
Each year, Carrières des Lumières offers you an extraordinary experience by immersing you in the work of great figures in modern and contemporary painting.
A unique place, a magical atmosphere and a wealth of masterpieces!
Long programme
From 31 January to 4 January 2026
This immersive journey focuses on the artist’s innovative techniques: his love of the outdoors transformed the way he captured shades of light and changing landscapes. The famous reflections of the Seine or the cliffs of the English Channel take on a new dimension at the heart of the Carrières des Lumières.
The immersive exhibition also pays tribute to Monet’s sources of inspiration. In particular, the influence of Japanese prints, which he collected with a passion, and which nurtured his compositions and bold perspectives.
In addition, photography, which was flourishing at the time, inspired Monet, who captured the moment while capturing the unique atmosphere of each scene, foreshadowing the visual language of cinema.
The retrospective also highlights the garden at Giverny, which Monet regarded as a veritable laboratory for artistic experimentation. In this space shaped by the painter, every plant and pond was designed to fuel his creativity.

Short programme
From 31 January to 4 January 2026
Immerse yourself in the unique world of Henri Rousseau at Les Carrières des Lumières. Through vibrant, dreamlike works, this retrospective invites us to explore the world of this self-taught painter, whose imagination captured the colours of exotic landscapes and the poetry of industrial Paris. Jungles and wild animals come to life before your eyes, in a tribute to the creative daring of the artist nicknamed the ‘Douanier’.
The immersive exhibition invites us to explore a Paris at the end of the 19th century, in the midst of industrialisation, populated by frozen figures and airships floating in the sky. Although his naïve style and unconventional perspectives were initially mocked, Rousseau won the respect of avant-garde figures such as Picasso, Delaunay and Kandinsky, who admired his poetic eye and modernist vision.
In Rousseau’s imaginary jungles and exotic landscapes, tigers, lush plants and vivid colours celebrate escape.
