Blue, blue, blue: the Klein adventure

Until April 2023

As an echo of the Carrières des Lumières programme, the Château des Baux-de-Provence is offering an open-air exhibition retracing the life and work of the Nice artist Yves Klein through his emblematic works as well as photographs of the artist.

Internationally known for his monochrome paintings, his performances and for his invention of the intense blue colour IKB, which became his trademark, Yves Klein went beyond figuration and abstraction to invest the objects, space and world around him.

Through 11 large format panels combining photographs and reproductions of his most emblematic works, follow the artistic and personal path of this prolific creator.

From his monochromes to his most avant-garde works of immaterial pictorial sensitivity, explore the different facets of his work.

Klein developed a narrative around his work and left many insightful writings on his process, some of which you will find quoted in the exhibition.

Looking back on his youth marked by travel, his training as a judoka, his theoretical writings, the collective adventures in which he took part, discover the dazzling life – his career lasted only eight years – and the radical approach of this artist who never ceased to put himself on stage, elaborating a personal myth that is an integral part of his work.

This exhibition is organised in collaboration with the Yves Klein Archives.
